Churston Golf Club won the DMVGA Emerton-Court final at Dainton beating Saunton in a close-fought match.
The teams of five pairs of seniors (over 60) played fourball matchplay with Churston winning 3 1/2 to 1 ½ and taking the title for the fourth time since the competition was started by the Devon Men Veteran Golfers Association in 1976.
One highlight of the event was a hole-in-one by Churston’s Mike Jeffs, The seven handicapper aced the 142 yard par 3 15th.
Thirty-five Devon clubs entered the competition at the beginning of the season. To reach the final Churston beat Dartmouth, Ilfracombe, Crediton and Torquay and Saunton defeated Exminster, RND, Thurlestone and Stover.
DMVGA captain and Stover member Harvie Taylor and president Peter Stuckey, from Tiverton, presented the winners with the trophy and both teams with engraved tumblers marking their success in making the final.
Results (Churston pairs first): Mike Jeff and David Dudderidge halved with Paul Vicary and David Banbury; Jim Pettigrew and Terry Dart lost 6 and 5 to Brian Medlam and Geoff Briggs; Tom Holland and Tom Yeoman won 5 and 4 over Alan Bennett-Brown and Peter Swales; Paul Newman and Dave Lightfoot won 2 and 1 over Chris Norman and Peter Besnard; John Wood and Dave Mytton won 4 and 3 over Graham Virgin and Grahame Davidson.
