Secretary’s Report

SECRETARY’S REPORT TO THE AGM

Good evening.

This report follows the end of my 1st year as Secretary of the DMVGA. I can honestly say that it has been a year of challenges – nearly all of which have been fairly successfully fielded. I have to admit that the first few months were not always easy, especially when things did not go smoothly, but I survived and am even silly enough to continue for the forthcoming year!

The job has been extremely busy, full of variety, sometimes a pleasure and sometimes very frustrating. I admit that the responsibilities ranged far wider than I had imagined and the number of hours spent managing the position far greater than expected. Nevertheless, despite some mistakes along the way, it has been enjoyable and fulfilling . It is of course the members of the Association who make the job what it is. On the whole you have been helpful, quick to express thanks and very supportive. It is never easy to please everyone all of the time, but I hope to have pleased a good number of you some of the time. The current year has been a steep learning curve and I hope that, now I have some idea of what to do, 2020 will prove to be a little easier.

The Executive Committee continues to do its best to manage the affairs of the DMVGA to the best of their abilities. We must not forget that all of them are volunteers and spend a lot of their time working on behalf of our 1,600 or so members. I take this opportunity to thank all of the committee for their hard work during 2019.  My own personal thanks also go to the Committee for their help and support for me during my 1st year.

I look forward to the challenge of the coming year. I hope that, with your support, it will again be a successful one and that we all make every effort to ensure the continued, and growing, success of the DMVGA.

Thank you
